Waved Umber

This was lucky. Didn't set trap last night but still added a new species to my list in the form of a Waved Umber which appeared in house. This was also notable in being my 100th garden species - amazing!

Dasysyrphus tricinctus

What with the weather finally improving I decided try my luck with the camera in the
garden. I wasn't to be disappointed as I found this hover:

Dasysyrphus tricinctus

That middle bar makes it very distinctive, it's Dasysyrphus tricinctus.

It's not rare, being widely distributed in the UK but from what I can gather it's not
especially common either.

I did take some HD video, not brilliant, but not bad!

That is my 26th species of hoverfly, nearly all of which I've found in the garden.

Moth Trap 75

have set the trap a few times recently but with so little of interest appearing it didn't seem worth posting. Today though saw a new species for me, albeit not especially unusual in the broad scheme. What's better though was it is a real beauty: Angle Shades.

1 Angle Shades
