Yesterday's Hovers and other bits

Despite seemingly perfect warm still and sunny conditions yesterday there were definitely fewer hovers around in the garden yesterday. Epistrophe elegans and Eristalis pertinax still predominate in terms of numbers but Syrphus vitripennis was seen along with Eupeodes luniger, Platycheirus manicatus, Helophilus pendulus and Myathropa florea. New for the year was this male Syritta pipiens:

Of interest were 2 species showing evidence of breeding, including an Eristalis pertinax ovipositing into the pond water and these H.penduluses doing what they were doing:

Helophilus pendulus

Other insects noted were a Lily Beetle, Several Large White butterflies, a Holly Blue and 3 Speckled Wood:

This Hawthorn Shield Bug was also of interest
